Mujahid Umar Abdur-Raqeeb
Brooklyn New York USA
Wirayudha Black Belt
Mujahid began his martial arts journey at a young age, inspired by classic martial arts films and the fighting spirit passed down through his family.
His grandfather, an amateur champion for five consecutive years, introduced him to the discipline and warrior mindset that would shape his future.
At just 11 years old, Mujahid received his first formal lessons in martial arts, beginning a lifelong path of dedication, honor, and combat mastery.
By the age of 15, he entered the world of boxing, sharpening his hands, timing, and fighting instincts.
Soon after, he met his first Kung Fu and Ninjutsu instructor, a highly ranked martial artist who taught privately outside of a traditional dojo environment. Under his guidance, Mujahid trained intensely and eventually earned his black belt, developing strong foundations in traditional combat, discipline, movement, and strategy.
His journey continued through the internal and external systems of Shaolin Kung Fu, where he trained under multiple instructors, including masters whose teachings carried older traditions and methods that are rarely taught today.
Through years of study, Mujahid preserved knowledge connected to classical martial arts culture, combat application, conditioning, and spiritual discipline.
As his passion for combat sports grew, Mujahid expanded into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai at 16 years old, beginning his evolution into mixed martial arts. He later pursued Judo, earning his First Dan Black Belt and competing in various martial arts competitions.
His experience includes karate sparring tournaments, Taekwondo black belt competitions, and years of cross-training across striking, grappling, and traditional systems.
In 2024, Mujahid met Guru Lee and officially began training in the art that would become the final and most meaningful expression of his martial path: Pencak Silat.
For Mujahid, Silat is more than self-defense — it is an expression of life itself. It teaches respect, adaptability, protection, and inner focus. The flowing movements, animal-inspired mechanics, forms, positions and cultural traditions of Wirayudha preserve the spirit of the ancient warrior while remaining effective in modern combat.
Today, Mujahid continues to dedicate himself to the growth and preservation of martial arts, carrying forward the lessons of his teachers while building his own path through Wirayudha Pencak Silat.
His mission is to share authentic martial arts knowledge, discipline, culture, and warrior philosophy with future generations.
